Secondary Operations Available for Wire Forms and Wire Form Tubing

Full-Service Wire Forms Manufacturer Offers Chamfering Service, Secondary Operations

Western Wire Products Company (phone# 800-325-3770; e-mail: [email protected]), a leading U.S. wire forms manufacturer, is a full-service standardized, specialty, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), and custom wire forms fabrication company that offers primary fabrication services, chamfering and other secondary operations, an wire forms finishing services.  In business for over 100 years, Western Wire Products has over 100 pieces of production machinery for CNC and precision fabrication of wire forms of all kinds.

We accommodate a wide range primary fabrication operations and custom production work meeting machining requirements for CNC wire bending and CNC wire forming, and can offer multi-slide formingfour-slide forming, and other precision-machining needs.  We offer customers a wide standardized inventory of products in several categories including:  general wire formsmechanical fastenerswire handleswire hangers, and even custom springs, which meet ASME standards as well as a wide range of other market sectors standards and industry specifications.  Review our wire forms catalog and/or Visual Index to learn about our standard wire forms inventory.

Wire Forms Chamfering, One Step in Secondary Operations

One of our many secondary operations for full-service wire forms fabrication and production includes wire form chamfering and an extensive list of other secondary operations, and finishing services.  We can accommodate a wide range of wire diameter sizing for chamfering as well as general fabrication.

Western Wire Products Co. accommodates wire diameters of:

  • 0.016” to 0.625” wire diameters or metric sizing of 0.4 mm to 16 mm (CNC-machining, lower volume production runs)
  • 0.028” to 0.562” wire diameters or metric sizing of 0.75 mm to 14 mm (higher-volume, precision machining production runs using four-slide and/or multi-slide techniques)
  • Strip Steel Wire to 16 gauge
  • MB Spring Wire (our most common general wire forms production material)
  • ASME-compliant fabrication standards
  • Other steel grades, Stainless Steel grades, Aluminum, metals and alloys available

As a full-service wire forms manufacturer, we offer chamfering services were applicable.  Since we also produce stampings, square wire tubing and general then tubing, we offer chamfering services for a variety of products.  Chamfering, or cutting an angle or a beveled edge, usually on a flat or square surface (e.g. square tubing, stampings, etc.) or for corners, is commonly performed with 45° cuts.  The angle of the cut and chamfer is entirely dependent on the specific machinery capabilities and tooling of the machinery.

We can offer common types chamfering, such as, creating chamfers (“chamfers” refers to the cuts made by chamfering machinery) in drilled holes, which is frequently used before other secondary operations, specifically deburring.  Regarding general chamfering, specialty machinery for secondary operations offers a wide range of cutting options, working with drilled holes after primary threading, utilizing 4-axes and/or 5-axes machinery for complex applications (e.g. multi-slide and four-slide techniques), frequently followed by deburring/vibratory deburring.  Other angles of cut (degrees) are used in a variety of custom and specialty wire form fabrications.  Common, although dedicated cutters are for specific angles (e.g. the most common are 15°, 30°, 45°, or 60°) and may be used for a variety fabrication requirements.

In heavy industrial or manufacturing settings, specialty machinery may be used to create chamfers.  Some industries and manufacturers use chamfer planes or chamfer mills, and/or machinery capable of producing V-cuts, or other cuts in preparation for deburring, other secondary operations and/or additional welding services.  Of course, the type of machinery, as well as the type of chamfer, is all dependent on the wire forms fabrication application at hand, the capability of the specific production machinery, and the metals or material(s) chamfered.

Also, chamfering is used for different applications related to wire form tube forming, finishing square tubing after tube bending, and primary tube fabrication procedures.  This is particularly useful for square wire form tubing.  Please let us know if you are interested in wire form tubing products or complex wire form designs requiring chamfering, deburring, and any of our secondary operations.
